Q1. Logistics is one of the key areas in international business. Explain the meaning and objectives of logistics.

Logistics is the management of the flow of resources between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet some requirements, for example, of customers or corporations. The resources managed in logistics can include physical items, such as food, materials, equipment, liquids, and staff, as well as abstract items, such as time, information, particles, and energy

 

Q2. Which is the main transport document while transporting goods through sea? Give details and types of that document.

As with most aspects of international trade, using ocean shipping to transport your goods involves the completion of specific documents. The Carrier who wishes to use Documentary Credit, must pay great attention to the transport document which he will receive. If this does not respect the obligations laid out in the contract for Documentary Credit, it will be impossible for the bank to pay on receiving the documents.

 

Q3. List the various modes of transportation used in international trade. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of fastest and safest mode of transportation.

1. Air Transport :

 

Air transport, like other transport services, is associated with international trade in two distinct ways. First, air

transport is traded as a service in its own right. Second, it is a key intermediate service for many other kinds

of trade, in the domain of both goods and services (such as tourism). Air freighting is commonly used by companies who work with short lead times, or advanced service levels.

 

Q4. Discuss the meaning and advantages of containerization. List the various types of containers available for transportation.

Answer : Meaning of containerization :

 

Containerization is a system of intermodal freight transport using intermodal containers (also called shipping containers and ISO containers) made of weathering steel. The containers have standardized dimensions. They can be loaded and unloaded, stacked, transported efficiently over long distances, and transferred from one mode of transport to another—container ships, rail transport flatcars, and semi-trailer trucks—without being opened.

 

Q5. What is pre-shipment inspection of export goods? Discuss the systems of pre-shipment inspection.

Answer :  Pre-shipment inspection of export goods:

 

Pre-shipment inspection, also called pre shipment inspection or PSI, is a part of supply chain management and an important and reliable quality control method for checking goods’ quality while clients buy from the suppliers.

After ordering a number of articles, the buyer lets a third party control the ordered goods before they are dispatched to him.

 

Q6. Write short notes on export packaging, packing and marking.

Today packaging is considered as one of the most important elements for marketing any product. Nobody can underscore the need for good packaging when he decides to export his product. Packaging means packing of the product in some container to reach the ultimate consumer. Packaging is the inner wrapping or container which covers one or more units of a product.
