Q1. Explain DFD & Data Dictionary? Explain in detail how the information requirement is determined for an organization?

Answer : Data flow diagram (DFD) :

 

A data flow diagram (DFD) is a graphical representation of the “flow” of data through an information system, modeling its process aspects. Often they are a preliminary step used to create an overview of the system which can later be elaborated. DFDs can also be used for the visualization of data processing (structured design).

 

Q2. What is MIS? Define the characteristics of MIS? What are the basic Functions of MIS? Give some Disadvantage of MIS?

Answer :  Definition of MIS :

 

Organized approach to the study of information needs of a management at every level in making operational, tactical, and strategic decisions. Its objective is to design and implement man-machine procedures, processes, and routines that provide suitably detailed reports in an accurate, consistent, and timely manner. Modern, computerized systems continuously gather relevant data, both from inside and outside the organization.

 

 

Q3. Explain Knowledge based system? Explain DSS and OLAP with example?

A Knowledge-based system is a computer program that reasons and uses knowledge to solve complex problems. Knowledge is acquired and represented using various knowledge representation techniques rules, frames and scripts. The basic advantages offered by such system are documentation of knowledge, intelligent decision support, self learning, reasoning and explanation. Knowledge-based systems are systems based on the methods and techniques of Artificial Intelligence.

 

Q4. What are Value Chain Analysis & describe its significance in MIS? Explain what is meant by BPR? What is its significance? How Data warehousing & Data Mining is useful in terms of MIS?

It describes the activities take place in a business and relates them to an analysis of the competitive strength of the business. Influential work by Michael Porter suggested that the activities of a business could be grouped under two headings:

(1) Primary Activities – those that are directly concerned with creating and delivering a product (e.g. component assembly); and

 

Q5. Distinguish between closed decision making system & open decision making system? What is ‘What – if‘ analysis? Why is more time spend in problem analysis & problem definition as compared to the time spends on decision analysis?

Answer : Closed decision making system :

 

The decision-making systems can be classified in a number of ways. Conditions of the closed decision-making system are:

a) The manager has a known set of decision alternatives and knows their outcomes fully in terms of value, if implemented.

b) The manager has a model, a method or a rule whereby the decision alternatives can be generated, tested, and ranked for selection.

 

Q6. What is ERP? Explain its existence before and its future after? What are the advantages & Disadvantages of ERP? What is Artificial Intelligence? How is it different from Neural Networks?

Answer : Enterprise Resource Planning :

 

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) is a cross-functional enterprise system driven by an integrated suite of software modules that supports the basic internal business processes of a company. ERP gives a company an integrated real-time view of its core business processes such as production, order processing, and inventory management, tied together by ERP applications software and a common database maintained by a database management systems.
